Highly Educated Yet Dumb as a Stump
Obama can’t win. While I understand that he doesn’t pick gifts for heads of state out himself, he IS responsible for picking his staff. The biggest gaffes so far, botching a Russian translation and presenting Gordon Brown with DVD that won’t play in European players. Way to go Obama!
A Downing Street spokesman said he was “confident” that any gift Obama gave Brown would have been “well thought through,” but referred me to the White House for assistance on the “technical aspects”.
A White House spokesman sniggered when I put the story to him and he was still looking into the matter when my deadline came last night.
By the way, when Obama’s unlikely gift was disclosed, a reader emailed me to ask if Clueless was among the films. Funnily enough, it was not.
Maybe I’m not smart enough to understand it, since I didn’t go to an Ivy League university, but this really doesn’t seem the way to go about “restoring” the worlds view of America and Americans.
